    Departmental Application Information & Instructions

Congratulations on your acceptance to SUNY New Paltz!  Your entrance into the Adolescence Education program, however, is contingent upon your successful completion of the departmental application process.

These rigorous programs are designed for candidates who are “committed to becoming caring, critical, and reflective professionals responsive to the needs of a diverse society”. Program graduates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:  critical inquiry and intellectual development, professional skills and disposition, culturally responsive practice and social justice, and democratic citizenship and student advocacy.

These programs require extensive pre-student teaching field experiences in addition to a full semester of student teaching in both middle and high school settings.  Fieldwork and student teaching sites are in a variety of mid-Hudson Valley schools, typically within one hour of campus.  Several program areas also offer fieldwork sites in New York City. Students are responsible for their own transportation and must understand that some sites will require up to an hour commute.
